Learning the Pulse of Fitness in Sixth Grade Science

Sixth graders from Mrs. Deruisa’s homeroom recently learned how to measure their heart rate by finding their pulse on their wrist and neck. After recording their resting heart rate, students completed short physical activities and measured their active heart rate to see how exercise affects the body. Using their data, they created scatter plots to compare the two heart rates, connecting health, math, and science in a fun, hands-on way. Students enjoyed discovering how their hearts respond to movement and
learned the importance of monitoring heart rate for overall fitness and wellness.

Cocktails and Blues Gala Supports LFC’s Outdoor Recreation Complex Vision

Lake Forest Charter’s annual Cocktails and Blues Gala, held on November 1 at Messina’s at the Terminal, brought together supporters for an evening of music, and community celebration in support of a meaningful cause. While the event offered a lively atmosphere, its purpose remained central: proceeds will advance the school’s Outdoor Recreation Complex, which recently completed Phase I with a state-of-the-art multipurpose field for soccer and flag football. Funding from the gala will help move future phases forward, expanding access to lacrosse, tennis, and golf, opportunities that are not typically available to elementary and middle school students and that reflect Lake Forest Charter’s commitment to broad enrichment.
