Kindergarten & 1st Grade Applicants
Matrix scores are calculated by adding the combined math and reading portion of the eligibility assessment (up to 10 points each), portfolio submission (3 points), and viewing orientation/ submitting survey (6 points).
2nd through 8th Grade Applicants
Applicants applying to 2nd – 8th grade must score at least 33 points on the admissions matrix to be eligible for admission to Lake Forest Charter School.
How is the matrix score calculated?
Matrix scores are calculated by adding the combined math and reading portion of the eligibility assessment (up to 10 points each), previous year’s attendance (up to 3 points), and viewing orientation/ submitting survey (6 points)
Eligibility Assessment Points
Grades Kindergarten and 1st applicants must score 11 combined math and reading points to be eligible for admission. Grades 2nd through 8th applicants must score 14 combined math and reading points, to be eligible for admission.
Portfolio Submission Points
Grades Kindergarten and 1st applicants must submit a copy of a self-portrait drawing, handwriting sample, and artwork to obtain the 3 points allotted in this section. All three components must be received to be considered complete. Files should be uploaded in JEG or PDF formats only.
Grade point average is calculated using only core academic classes, and the grades will be unweighted. (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). Eligibility Score: Students who present a GPA less than 2.0, can not earn enough Matrix points to receive a qualifying score.
Attendance will be calculated using the total number of absences for the entire year listed on the FINAL report card of the[prior school year for students applying to grades 3 – 8. For students applying to 2nd grade, we will utilize the attendance from Quarter 1 on the report card of the current school year.
Orientation Viewing & Survey Response Points
As a component of the admissions matrix, applicants will have to view the parent/guardian orientation and submit the online survey to receive the corresponding matrix points. The pre-recorded orientation with the corresponding survey link will be sent in the initial welcome notification email and is also available here
