Phase I of the application process consists of application submission, assessment, and orientation. All applicants will receive score notification via email two weeks after they have taken the assessment at LFC. Applicants must score a minimum of 11 combined points on the Kindergarten assessment and 14 combined points on the 1st—8th-grade assessment to proceed to Phase II.
Once applicants have achieved the minimum combined score on the admission assessment, they will continue to Phase II. We will calculate the total matrix score in Phase II. We will email the total matrix scores to applicants.
Qualified applicants are defined as applicants that meet the minimum qualifying score determined by the school admissions matrix.
Age Requirements for Kindergarten
Applicants who wish to apply to LFC for Kindergarten must turn five (5) by September 30, 2021
Age Requirements for 1st grade
Applicants who wish to apply to LFC for 1st grade must turn six (6) by September 30, 2021
For Kindergarten ONLY, siblings of current applicants who qualify for admission are given the highest priority for available seats.
Definition of Sibling
A sibling is defined as having one or both parents in common or a step-sister or step-brother who resides under the same roof. Documentation may be requested to confirm sibling status. If the sibling withdraws from the school before the applicant is offered placement, priority status will be revoked.
If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available seats for any grade level, there will be a lottery for that grade level to determine waiting list numbers. The admissions lottery date is TBD. The Admissions Coordinator will conduct the lottery with at least one member of the Board of Directors present. Parents are invited but are not required to attend the lottery. We may conduct the lottery virtually, if necessary. All entries will be pulled and recorded until the pool is exhausted. Once available spaces are filled, the lottery will continue to develop the waiting list order. Following the lottery, parents will be notified of their child’s status by email within one week of the lottery.
The waiting list will remain in effect until October 1, 2021. We will notify applicants in the waiting list order to fill open spots if they come available.
Twins & Multiples
Should a lottery be necessary, twins and members of multiple births who qualify and are applying to the same grade, although applying separately, will be entered as one entrant. If one child receives a placement offer and the other child/children make(s) the minimum eligible matrix score, the other sibling (s) shall also have (a) placement offer(s) to the school.
Upon enrollment offer, parents will receive instructions on how to accept the enrollment offer and complete the applicant’s files. Parents will have three (3) business days to accept or decline the enrollment offer.
Applicants must provide documentation that they reside in Orleans Parish by providing three (3) proofs of residency during registration (after acceptance). The three proofs of residency must include the parent/legal guardian’s name and the same address as the applicant’s address. We do not accept Post Office boxes as proofs of residency. Applicants from Families in Transition (living with someone and do not have proof of residence in their name)/Homeless may satisfy the domicile requirements for Lake Forest Charter School by meeting with a member of the admissions team.
Lake Forest Charter does not offer retakes of the admission assessment – No exceptions. Parents/Legal Guardians have the right to appeal any admission decisions. The appeal must be submitted in writing to the Admission Review Committee within three (3) business days of the admissions decision letter date. The decision of the Admission Review Committee is final.
